Derek Long

Dr. Derek Long has taught high school English since 2004. He started teaching in Pittsburgh Public Schools in 2008 at Pittsburgh Oliver High School and moved to Perry Traditional Academy in 2012. He has also served as a guest lecturer at Grove City College in their Education Department. He is currently the head boy's basketball coach at Perry. In addition to his coaching and teaching duties, he serves as the Department Chair for Perry's English Department.

Dr. Long earned his Ed.D. from the University of Southern California, his Master's Degree from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and his Bachelor's Degree from Grove City College.

He is married to his wife Katie, and they have five children: Isaac, Noah, Selah, Theo, and A. The Longs live in the Observatory Hill neighborhood of the North Side.
